Aló, ¿buenas? It’s been a minute since you’ve heard from us. We can assume that you, as well, are exhausted about the world right now, and confused about this email. Luckily for you —unlike most things right now— we’ve got some answers.
Much like the world, Mixta took a pause. Late last year, we got off the hamster wheel that is to produce regular stories, interviews, and social media posts and gave ourselves time to think about what we were doing and, most importantly, what we wanted to create with —and at— Mixta.
Since taking this pause, the world has well… changed. And what better time to launch a new project than during a global pandemic? All the while systems, companies, and celebrities we grouped in the just the way things are category, implode. One Instagram apology at a time.
So anyway, while we are all longing for simpler times and living off nostalgia, we would like to introduce you to our newsletter, El Chisme! If you have been with us for some time, you recognize the name from our monthly recaps. We are taking the notion of el chisme being something generally negative or trivial, and flipping it on its head.
El Chisme is a bi-monthly newsletter where we will cover topics in the way only our team of primarily Dominican writers can. Each issue will include stories, perspectives and conversation starters that rarely make it to the local or mainstream media, delivered right to your inbox. El Chisme is a space for curiosity, conversation, sharing, and growth. We want everything we craft and curate to be relevant, but we won’t shy away from writing the stories we’re dying to both tell and read.
Who is behind El Chisme, you ask? You’ll be pleased to hear from voices you’ll recognize, as well as new ones. The women behind Mixta are what make it great, and what we hope makes you feel right at home.
You know the drill: Pon la greca and pull up a chair. This is bound to get the group chat talking.
